The 2017 Newport Beach BBQ Competition: Winter Q & BBQ EXPO is Saturday, January 28, 2017 from 12-6PM at the Newport Dunes Waterfront Resort. Professional BBQ Teams from all over the region will load-in on Friday, January 27th and cook all night. KCBS Certified Judges will decide who wins $10,000 in cash prizes!

Check out the great food available at this year’s 2017 Newport Beach Barbecue Competition Winter Q and Expo! There’s ribs, briskets, and tips galore from more than a dozen teams and food vendors. Don’t forget to pre-order some sassy BBQ to enjoy after the event!
Sample Competition BBQ!
Many teams will be selling their competition BBQ to the Public on Saturday from 12 p.m. to 6 p.m. under a giant 14,000 square foot tent. Come early and enjoy a sampling from each of the participating teams or a full BBQ dinner, while supplies last. Food tickets are $1 each. Each team sets thier prices for each tasting. 25 cents of each tickets goes to support free dental clinics for children in need in Orange County.

Friday night will feature an INTRO TO COMPETITION BBQ CLASS, taught by local Pit Master and Master Judge: Paul Richardson. Learn about the sanctioning bodies, the competition circuit, how to become a certified BBQ Judge, basic trimming and cooking techniques, participate in demos and sample the results.
The Class will begin at 6PM in The Back Bay Bistro. Grab a drink at the bar and then make your way to the patio. As time permits, the class will walk the competition grounds, talk to a few Pit Masters, see what equipment they are using and perhaps even get a peak into their prep areas as they prepare their meats for the smoker. Seats will be limited. Advance registration required. Tickets for Friday night are $25.
On Saturday there will be FREE classes running throughout the event. Start with the basics, and work your way up. Topics will include learning about different smokers and which woods to use, how to select the best meat and trim it correctly, sauces and rubs, and much more.
Sample some of the area’s best Breweries! Local Brewmasters will be on hand to pour thier seasonal specials and yearlong favorites. Unlimited pours are available for $25 from 12-4pm. A cash bar, beer and wine by the glass will be available all day.
